Blogger now functioning

At last my Blogger is working again. I just got a load of comments/feedback that had been stuck in the system since October 2005. So I'll be getting to responding to them all shortly.
I just finished Failure to Launch, which I hope will be my last comedy for a while. The next project is LONGFORD by Peter Morgan and with Jim Broadbent and Samantha Morton. I'm going back home to the UK for this drama about Lord Longford, and so I'm really looking forward to it, both because it is not-at-all-funny, and because I get to spend time with friends and family. The film itself should be on HBO in early May.
In order to do the film in the UK I am cobbling together a little mobile composing rig. It's amazing how small this can now be: just a couple of laptops really. I'm putting them together and figuring out how it'll all work this month.
Meanwhile the score CD for WEDDING CRASHERS has been released, to coincide with the DVD.

Hello Mr. Kent,

My name is Bryan Arata and I am a big fan of your music. I love Freaky Friday and Wedding Crashers. As well as the score to Sideways. There is so much detail in your music according to all the characters, and mood of each scene.

I am moving to Los Angeles in a few months and I am interested in film music. I was curious to know if there was a job opening on your team. I have 12 years of expereince in orchestrating, arranging, and a bit of composing for full orchestra. I have scored, and recorded music for 2 independant films and 2 short films.

I can send some demos your way if you are at all interested. And if not please keep my information for the possibility of something in the future.

Thanks,

Bryan Arata

Hello Mr. Kent,

My name is Eric Bird and I'm a free lance film critic. Just having a small laugh since we were playing the score from "Sideways" at a dinner party last night. Someone mentioned that the CD for "About Schmidt" was good as well. I brought up a review that I'd written last year for paper here in South Florida, making a special note of how good the score was, for the film "Wedding Crashers." Not realizing at the time that all three were your scores (although I could've guessed "Schmidt" was you also given the director). Just amazing stuff. I would have to say you're the best composer for film since Henry Mancini. I'm dying to see "Thank You for Smoking," but even more so knowing your music will be adding to it.

I'm a firm believer in the William Goldman Rule of 7. That there's 7 people working on a film that can destroy it. And the composer is definitely one. After listening to the "Rolfe Kent Hotlist" on AOL (Did you know there is one?), I can be rest assured that one aspect of a film is in good hands.

Eric,

Thanks you for your very kind and supportive words. It was really lovely to come back and find this email. And I did not know there was a AOL hotlist...very suprising!

Warmest wishes, Rolfe

I am searching for a duduk and launeddas in los angeles. I play several instruments. Ha ve recorded in the Jazz world on mallets. Of course writing for images is a goal as it seems to leave boundaries by the wayside. Any suggestions for retail outlets in LA where I can touch these two instruments? I have a site where you can hear I am dedicated

Stumbled across your blog through a Google search...I'm impressed that a professional working in the industry takes the time to maintain a personal site.

I'm trying to answer a question, and thought you might be able to help...there's a song in "...Crashers" that has lyrics that include the phrase "keep it comin' on" or "keep it goin' on". I don't think the song is on the album.

Do you know what it is?

I'll be sure to listen for your work in future screenings.

I considered myself as the professional in this theme, and did not think that I can find in the Internet something new. But having come on your site, I have understood, that I know nothing and it is necessary for me to study and study as much as possible.
