Playa Chant

Got back from the best Burning Man yet- really a wonderful time with such a warm, generous and enthusiastic atmosphere. Held numerous workshops including 3 Great Singing Buddha-Bowls, and they have helped me figure out where I want to take this organic, hypnotic, participation music thing next. Which is, of course, deeper, more evocative, more passionate, and more opening. It's a project I am calling Long-Song for the moment. More on that later.

Meanwhile the GSBB's were fantastic, and the last one, on Saturday evening before the Burn, was full power, with particpants being in full voice, vigorous and fun and loud. We are all standing or dancing on a dusty street corner in Black Rock City, bikes and art cars slowly weaving by, and the 50 of us are hollering and singing and chanting; creating a musical space in the midst of the dust and noise. It was spine tinglingly wonderful.

Hi Rolfe,
I believe we talked once before. I have been doing some composing for the past week or so (as silly as that may sound). Somehow this melody came to me and I started to work on it as best as I could with the programs given me. I will admit I am just starting out as a keyboard player, I'm not quite there yet, but I feel that using that instrument will be vital to me composing anything. I may have told you this but I also play guitar. I enjoy playing music, but what I would really like to do is compose music. I am going to be taking a course online on music theory and such things. I think somehow I am a fast learner and probably have some natural talent for music because I could easily come up with chord patterns on the guitar but I couldn't quite come up with melodies. Then somehow I came up with one on keyboard and I have now built upon it. I have them posted on my web page if you'd like to see. Please email me at pacey1800@aol.com for the link. Thanks.

Hey burning man,

I was watching the Matador with my wife the other night. When it came to the horse race I said to her: "Hey, Rolfe wrote that!", and yes of course, I was right!

Cheers,
Yvan

Maan,
The piano music that they play in the House of Yes was not by me, so I really don't know how to get hold of it. There was a guy on set that played that stuff (he sat under the piano but had his hands on the keys!). His name should be in the end credits though, so you can probably find him.

SalasDiego,
It's a combination of a lot of work, guided by intuition and lots of detailed discussions with the director.

Dear Mr. Kent,

Hello and Good Day, kind sir! My name is Christopher Barry! I am a huge film score collector. I love film scores with all my heart. I enjoy listening to the scores over and over again. I recently discovered your website, and heard the score track to the film, "Freaky Friday" that you scored for! I loved it, it was beautiful, i'm listening to it again, right now! Is there any way I could possibly get a copy of the score you did for it? A promo or complete score, possibly? It would really make me happy and warm my heart, knowing that I have finally obtained the score to the movie, which I have been searching for, for some time now. I really enjoy your music, it's fantastic, very emotional and moving and it fits the film beautifully! Please let me know what you decide. Thank You and Take Care and continue to make wonderful music!

Sincerely a Fan,

Christopher Barry

P.S. - If you decide to send me something, what ever you send me will NOT go past me, I understand whats at stake if it does and I know both you and I don't want any trouble. What you send me is for my own personal listening enjoyment ONLY!

Hello, Rolfe,

I'm a huge fan of the series "Dexter" and discovered that you wrote the main theme. Any chance of getting the sheet music for that up on your site any time soon? I was also wondering if you scored the entire show. I think the end credit music is ridiculously well done and VERY eerie. I'd love to be able to download that if, in fact, you have access to it. Thanks so much!

Hi Rolfe! Sorry to be so repetitive, but I *love* the DEXTER theme. I am giving away my age, but there is something about the DEXTER theme that reminds me of the old television Alfred Hitchcock theme, only so cool with all the unique sound types in it. (I'd love to hear you take that old TV theme and give it a treatment.)

Anyway, thank you for making it downloadable.
