Bosnia begins
Completed the cd for REIGN OVER ME, which will be released by Lakeshore records on 20th March. The film comes out 23rd March.
Learned today that there will be a CD of music from DEXTER later this year, featuring my theme plus music from the series by Dan Licht.
Currently scoring Richard Shepard's new film about American journalists on an ill-advised trip to Bosnia to find and interview a fugitive war criminal. It's based on the true tale of Sebastian Junger and John Falk who spent their summer vacation 2001 hunting for, and almost finding, Karadzic. It's a really refreshing change of pace for me; an tense adventure/drama, beautifully shot in Croatia by David Tattersall, and starring Terence Howard and Richard Gere.

Now then Mr Kent! Does the fact that you're a successful composer and mini superstar mean that I can talk about how I was in the Rolfe Kent Experience at dinner parties?
All the best mate
Keith Langley (Ex Utah Saints as well as ex Rolfe Kent EXperience)
Hi there. Jack here. I really dig your stuff a lot. Happy for you-doing something you love so well. I am an indie jazz vocalist in nyc and would like you to hear a few tracks from my upcoming release? Would you mind if I sent you a few mp3's? I'd like for you to hear it just for a good listen. My email address is jaxjazz@mac.com Regardless, keep up the good work.
Best and true -

Hello Rolfe,
I Just wanted to write you to say how much I enjoy your music. I think the music you create always works perfectly with picture and has such a unique and distinctive sound which you can only call your own. I think that is it very important for any musician to have a style that sets them apart from the gander and I am always excited to hear what you come up with next. I have been a touring drummer for years and then moved to Los Angeles from Virginia when my composing in the commercial world picked up. I am now beginning to do more soundtracks and would love to know any pointers that you have or things to keep in mind when starting a new project. Also do you use GigaStudio to record your string and brass sounds when you are writing, and if so what packages or sounds do you recommend buying to go with GigaStudio. My email is matthew@blackiris.tv. If you have the time and would like to hear samples of my work then you can do so at www.blackiris.tv. Have a great day/night.
take care
Matthew Compton
Keith, I have often referenced the Utah Saints in my bids for social acceptability. What are you doing now? Send me your email, and I can extract it before it's published on this blog, and we can catch up.
Jack D, I'd like to hear your stuff. Can you send me a link to hear it? I'd rather do that than download mp3s by email. Cheers, Rolfe
Matthew,
I'd be happy to give you what pointers I have.
And No, I don't use Gigastudio anymore, I use Kontakt. My favourite strings and Brass are from Sonic Implants.

Hello Mr. Kent -
I recently had an opportunity to see THE HOUSE OF YES for the second time and I really love the score you wrote for this film. I downloaded the score cues from your website and I was wondering (and please forgive me in advance if this is not the appropriate place to be asking this question) how I might be able to obtain the Zomba Screen Music CD. Thanks so much and keep up the GREAT work!
- Cameron (tenebrion85@hotmail.com)
Cameron, I'm so pleased you enjoyed House of Yes. When you mention the Zomba CD I assume you mean a promo for H of Y from years ago. Those CDs dont exist anymore, so I fear you are out of luck.
Rolfe
Hi there,
I loved your score for "Reign Over Me"
I am a film and tv composer in malibu. I drove my self crazy trying to guess weather the piano sound was a sample or real. (i cant have fun at the movies anymore, always analizing the score and trying to learn from others great work)
Anyway its a great piano sound! but most of all, its played with lovely emotion and style.
Peace

Hey Rolfe,
My name is Paxton and I run a wine club in Toronto. I love Sideways and I love the soundtrack!! I can't wait to play it this summer on the patio, since I just finally found it in the music store...2 questions. 1) Would you come up to Toronto to play during a wine festival? I'm not sure how or when it would work, but I think it would be amazingly cool. Have you done anything like that before, other than some promo stuff after Sideways was released? 2) I'd love to use some of your music in our promotions. We have about 300 members and we plan on growing it more and more. We do videos and I'd love to use it for some of our videos. We'll be definitely playing it in the bus on our wine tours as well! Lastly, are you a big wine fan? I'd like to do an article on you for our website. But let me follow up with that. check us out at www.iYellowWineClub.com feel free to email us at iyellowwineclub@gmail.com
Cheers,
Just came across your site from the Wikipedia entry of the Dexter TV Series. Excellent job on the opening theme song! It's very catchy and could possibly be the best theme song for a TV Series at the moment. Keep up the good work sir
P.S. If you want a website re-design feel free to contact me, I feel there are some things on the main webpage that could be improved . I'll be glad to do it as a favour
Rolfe Kent! You straight rock the party that rocks the party. End of story. WORD.
Hi, I just got to your blog here since i wanted to know a lil bit more about the person behind the EXCELENT job made at Dexter's main title and Wedding Crashers scores.
I do have a question however, I couldn't help noticing that there's something in Dexter's theme that reminds me to another old song of the same style (kindda The Addam's Family style in the humorous-creepy way). Is it possible that you had some influence on this one? It's driving me mad since i don't recall where i've heard something a lil bit alike before.
You can reply to my email if you want, it's nevermind85(at)gmail.com; and thanks!
P.S.: BTW, I really appreciate the fact that you make available your work for download.
I had no idea you scored Reign Over Me. I saw it last week. Dug the movie, really dug the score. But what brought me here is The Matador. Much like my Reign Over Me experience, I dug the movie, but really dug the score! In particular that little piano bit that turns up repeatedly, most memorably when Bean and Greg Kinnear talk about the first time they met, about halfway through the flick when they’re sitting on the bed. My question is this: where in God's name can I find that piece? It's beautiful and ridiculously catchy! I've gone through the soundtrack at record stores and searched all over the internet, and if it exists anywhere, it's eluded me. Is there anywhere, any way, I can get that wonderful piece of music into my iPod? I'm willing to sell you my immortal soul. Thank you kind sir, and rock on.
- Tim
Tim, send me your email and I'll send you the mp3 of that piano piece. It's called "there's not a thing to fear". And you are right, it didn't make it onto the CD. I can keep your @ off the blog if you like.
Rolfe
Dear Mr. Kent,
I'm an admirer of your musical creations. Specifically, for the film House of Yes. More specifically, however, I'm completely mesmerized by the classical piano piece "played" by characters Jackie O and Marty.
Could you please inform me the name of this magnificent work?
Oh dear, I have been asked about the H of Y piece before, and it's not by me! I don't know where it came from. Check the end titles- it must be listed somewhere. It's the only piece that was created before the film was shot, and long before I came on-board.
Good luck, Rolfe
